WINNIPEG, MB, June 7, 2023 – Women’s Health Clinic (WHC)’s Dragonfly Support Program (DSP) offers unique opportunities for healing – most recently, with a Wabi Sabi Kintsugi workshop in partnership with ORE – A Place of Tender Love and Compassion. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. Once repaired, the broken objects become something not to be hidden but something to display with pride. At some point, we have all experienced circumstances that have scarred us, but it is our scars that make us beautiful.
The DSP held its first free Wabi Sabi Kintsugi workshop on May 27th, 2023. Within half an hour of sharing the workshop, all spots were filled.
“This demonstrates there is a need in community for alternative methods of healing and working through grief,” says Erin Bockstael, Manager of Family and Community Programs. “With more funding, we would be able to put on more workshops such as this one.
Each participant received their own porcelain dish to break on-site and repair with gold.
“I really enjoyed being able to sit with a few of the loss moms outside and chat while we worked on putting back together the pieces of our pottery dishes. There’s something about creating a bond with others who have gone through a similar loss that is just so meaningful. Having a space to openly talk about our children is invaluable. So, thank you!” – Workshop Participant
WHC can provide more programming with workshops such as this, but we need funding in order to do that. If you are interested in helping us provide more workshops in the future
