ABOUT HEY CUZZIN

This event is a collaboration between 17 community partners committed to celebrating Indigenous cultures, relationships, and joy.

Started in 2022, Hey Cuzzin was born of a collaboration between four community organizations to create a welcoming, inclusive event where community could come together, have fun, and feel a true sense of belonging. “We wanted everyone who attended to enjoy delicious food, live Indigenous music, and performances that honoured the rich cultures of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples,” said Elder Louise McKay.

Rooted in mutual respect and shared responsibility, this collaboration represents reconciliation in action.

The success of the first gathering inspired the partners to make Hey Cuzzin an annual tradition, now five years in. What began with four founding partners has grown to include 17. There’s always room in the family for another cuzzin!

Together, we honour the spirit of National Indigenous Peoples Day through connection, celebration, and collective care.
